The French Mission for Food Heritage and Cultures is the organisation that obtained UNESCO's inscription of the French gastronomic meal on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.
Its objective is to promote the recognition of gastronomy (particularly French gastronomy) as an important part of humanity's heritage and culture and of diversity, and to help UNESCO register various initiatives aimed at promoting the diversity of French gastronomy.

Today, this Mission has four objectives:

Organisation and coordination of the 4 Cities of Gastronomy (Dijon, Lyon, Paris-Rungis, Tours) to promote the professions, sectors and expertise, develop the range of professional training on offer and raise awareness of the benefits of eating well together.

Residences of international chefs in the Cités de la gastronomie.

Organisation of or participation in events promoting French gastronomy.

Organisation of the Rencontres des Gobelins: weekly meetings to share knowledge about art history, decorative tableware and arts and crafts.

The French Mission for Food Heritage and Cultures is also behind the Mets et des Mots (Food and Words) festival, under the patronage of President Macron.

It took place for the first time at the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts in 2024.
This first gourmet event dedicated to the culinary cultures of French-speaking countries is free and open to all.

It promotes cuisine as a vehicle for sharing different cultures and brings together producers, breeders, winegrowers, artisans, men and women of letters, chefs, artists, etc. from member countries or observers of the Francophonie.

In 2024, ArsNova supported, in particular, Enzo M's performance ‘Les mots à la bouche’ during a unique literary and culinary evening that was both jovial and gourmet.
